Overview
The 1993 NFL Draft was held April 25-26 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York. A total of 224 players were selected over two days. Starting this year, the draft was reduced from 12 rounds (which it had been since 1977) to eight rounds.

Washington State quarterback Drew Bledsoe was the No. 1 pick, selected by the Patriots. It was the third time in the last five seasons that a quarterback was picked first overall. Bledsoe was the first quarterback selected No. 1 overall by the Patriots since Jim Plunkett in 1971. Notre Dame quarterback Rick Mirer was the No. 2 pick, by the Seahawks.

Notre Dame running back Jerome Bettis, drafted 10th overall by the Rams, was the Offensive Rookie of the Year, and a first-team All-Pro selection. Kansas defensive tackle Dana Stubblefield, drafted No. 26 overall by the 49ers, was the Defensive Rookie of the Year. Also earning first-team All-Pro honors was Nebraska kick returner/punt returner Tyrone Hughes (fifth round), drafted 137th overall by the Saints.

Among the notable late-round picks were Marshall wide receiver Troy Brown (198th overall, Patriots) and quarterbacks Elvis Grbac (219th overall, by the 49ers) and Trent Green (222nd overall by the Chargers).

Akron kicker Daron Alcorn was the 224th and final selection (aka Mr. Irrelevant), by the Buccaneers.
