Overview
The 1987 NFL Draft was held April 28-29, 1987 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. The draft consisted of 12 rounds and 335 selections.

For the second consecutive year, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had the No. 1 overall selection. Also, for the second consecutive year, the Buccaneers selected the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, quarterback Vinny Testaverde from Miami (FL).

The Buccaneers previous No. 1 overall selection, Auburn running back Bo Jackson, was re-entered into the draft pool and was selected in the seventh round (183rd overall) by the then-Los Angeles Raiders.

Troy Stradford, a running back from Boston College, was selected in the fourth round by the Dolphins and won Offensive Rookie of the Year. Bills linebacker Shane Conlan, selected eighth overall out of Penn State, won Defensive Rookie of the Year.

As of 2009, the only player elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame from this draft class is Purdue cornerback Rod Woodson, who was selected 10th overall by the Steelers.
