Overview
The New York Giants selected Hakeem Nicks with the 29th overall selection in the 2009 NFL Draft.

In the 2008 season, the Giants finished 12-4 in the regular season, finishing in first place in the NFC East. The Giants lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in the divisional playoffs.

Prior to selecting Nicks, the Giants had selected a defensive player with each of their last three first-round selections, including 2008, when they selected Miami safety Kenny Phillips.
