Overview
The Atlanta Falcons used the 24th overall selection in the 2009 NFL Draft to select Ole Miss DT Peria Jerry.

In the 2008 season, the Falcons finished 11-5 in the regular season, finishing in second place in the NFC South. They lost to the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC Wild Card Playoffs.

Jerry is just the second defensive player drafted by the Falcons in their last six first-round selections.

- The Falcons acquired the 20th pick in the 5th round (156th overall) and the 1st pick in the 7th round (210th overall) from the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for the 7th pick in the 5th round (156th overall) on April 26, 2009.

- The Falcons traded the 26th pick in the 7th round (235th overall) to the Denver Broncos in exchange for Domonique Foxworth on Sept. 2, 2008.
