Overview
Curtis Brinkley is a running back for the San Diego Chargers, who signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Syracuse. Brinkley is currently on the reserve/non-football injury list, after being shot during the preseason.
Prep Career
Brinkley rushed for 7,429 yards and 85 touchdowns in his career at West Catholic High School, breaking the Philadelphia prep school record previously held by NFL running back Kevin Jones. Brinkley also set Philadelphia career records with 1,007 carries and five 300-yard rushing games. After graduating from high school, Brinkley spent one season at Hargrave Military Academy before enrolling at Syracuse.
College Career
Curtis Brinkley spent his first two years at Syracuse primarily as a kick returner, but did see more time rushing as a sophomore. Brinkley went into the 2007 season as the starting RB for the Orange, but suffered a broken leg against Buffalo, ending his season after eight games. He still led Syracuse in rushing iwth 371 yards. Brinkley led the Orangemen in rushing with 1,164 yards and seven touchdowns in 2008. He also compiled a 4.9 yard per carry average and his longest run of the season was a 45-yard jaunt against Louisville in a 28-21 win.
Professional Career
Brinkley was eligible to be selected in the 2009 NFL Draft, but went undrafted. He signed a free-agent contract with the San Diego Chargers.

On July 10, 2009, Brinkley was shot multiple times by an unknown assailant. He drove from the scene, and was found by police, who took him to a local hospital. On Aug. 20, 2009, Anthony Peterson of Philadelphia turned himself in for the shooting and was charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.
