Overview
Larry English is a defensive end for the San Diego Chargers, who selected him 16th overall in the 2009 NFL Draft. English played four seasons at Northern Illinois University. He is listed at 6-feet, 3-inches tall and 255 pounds.
Prep Career
In high school at Marmion Academy (IL), English was a standout in football, basketball and track. He was lightly recruited out of high school and received only two-star rating as a linebacker by Rivals.com.
College Career
English made his collegiate debut in 2004 against Maryland but suffered a season ending injury and was granted a medical redshirt. As a redshirt freshman in 2005 English started nine games for the Huskies, leading the defensive line with 78 tackles. In 2006, English recorded 11 sacks and was a first team All-MAC selection at defensive end. In 2007 and 2008, English was named to the Bronko Nagurski preseason watch list. He closed out his career as one of the school's all-time great defensive players. His 31.5 career sacks are a school record.
NFL Career
English was selected in the first round (16th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers. Before the 2009 season, English signed a five-year/$13.4M contract with San Diego, including $10M in guaranteed money.
