Overview
Captain Munnerlyn is a cornerback for the Carolina Panthers with the 216th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Munnerlyn attended the University of South Carolina, where he played for three seasons. Following his junior season of 2008, Munnerlyn chose to forgo his final year of eligibility and enter the 2009 NFL Draft. Munnerlyn is 5-feet, 9-inches tall and weighs 185 pounds. His last name is pronounced MUN-er-linn.
Prep Career
Munnerlyn was a three-time all-region selection at Murphy High School in Mobile, AL. He signed with South Carolina after also visiting West Virginia and Kansas State.
College Career
Munnerlyn played 35 games in his three-year career with the Gamecocks, missing one game in 2006 and two in 2007. He finished his career with 127 total tackles and five interceptions. His best season came in 2007, when he led South Carolina with three interceptions, earning first team All-SEC honors from the league's coaches. Munnerlyn also served as South Carolina's primary punt returner during his sophomore and junior season. He averaged 7.9 yards per return on 36 returns during the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
NFL Career
Munnerlyn was selected in the seventh round (216th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers. Before the 2009 season, Munnerlyn signed a four-year/$1.81M contract with Carolina.
