Overview
Chris Baker is a defensive lineman for the Denver Broncos, who signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Hampton. Baker played one season at Hampton after transferring from Penn State, and was a first-team All-MEAC selection in 2008. Baker is 6-feet, 2-inches tall and weighs 329 pounds.
Prep Career
Baker only played two years of organized football at Windsor High School in Windsor, CT, but attracted the attention of national scouts. He was ranked as the No. 60 defensive tackle prospect by Scout.com, and made official visits to Syracuse and Wisconsin before committing to Penn State.
Penn State Career
After redshirting the 2005 season, Baker recorded 43 total tackles in 20 games for Penn State. In the spring of 2007, following his redshirt freshman season, Baker was involved in an incident in which he and five other Penn State football players were arrested in connection with an assault at an off-campus apartment. Later that season, Baker was involved in another fight, which resulted in him being suspended for Penn State's game against Michigan State. He ended up pleading guilty to three misdemeanors for his role in the fights, and was sentenced to two years probation.
Hampton Career
Due to the off-field incidents, Baker was eventually dismissed from the Penn State football team, and chose to transfer to Hampton, where he would not have to sit out a season. Baker moved outside to defensive end for the Pirates, and led the MEAC with 8.5 sacks. His 69 total tackles were third among Hampton players, and he led the team with 16.5 tackles for loss.
Professional Career
Baker was eligible to be selected in the 2009 NFL Draft, but went undrafted. He signed a free-agent contract with the Denver Broncos, and earned a spot on the team's 53-man roster.
