Ricky Barkley Jean-Francois is a defensive tackle for the San Francisco 49ers, who selected him with the 244th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Jean-Francois attended Louisiana State University, where he was the Defensive MVP of the 2008 BCS National Championship Game. After his junior season, Jean-Francois chose to forgo his final season of eligibility with the Tigers and enter the 2009 NFL Draft. Ricky Jean-Francois is 6-feet, 3-inches tall and weighs 289 pounds. As a high school player at Carol City High School in Miami, Jean-Francois was the No. 3-ranked strongside defensive end in the class of 2005 according to rivals.com. He was also a state champion in the shot put and the discus for Carol City's track team. He signed with LSU after also considering offers from Miami (FL), Florida and Florida State, among other schools.
After redshirting the 2005 season, Jean-Francois played 12 games in 2006, finishing the season with 27 tackles (5.5 for loss), 3.0 sacks and a blocked kick. However, off the field, Jean-Francois was caught cheating and was suspended for a year, causing him to miss most of the 2007 season.
Jean-Francois returned to the field for the 2007 SEC Championship Game, recording three total tackles in LSU's win over Tennessee. He had six total tackles, 0.5 sacks and a blocked field goal in the BCS National Championship Game against Ohio State, earning defensive MVP honors.
Despite being slowed by a groin injury during his junior season, Jean-Francois played 11 games, recording 20 total tackles (3.0 for loss) and 2.0 sacks. He also blocked a field goal at the end of regulation against Alabama, forcing that game into overtime.
Track and Field Career
During his career at LSU, Jean-Francois also competed for the Tigers track team. He finished second at the 2006 SEC Indoor Championships in the shot put, and reached the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 2008, finishing 18th.
Jean-Francois was selected in the seventh round (244th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. Before the 2009 season, Jean-Francois signed a four-year/$1.793M contract with San Francisco.
