Overview
Asher Allen is a cornerback for the Minnesota Vikings, who selected him with the 86th pick in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Allen played three seasons at the University of Georgia. After the 2008 season, Allen chose to forgo his final year of eligibility with the Bulldogs and enter the 2009 NFL Draft. Allen is 5-feet, 10-inches tall and weighs 198 pounds.
Prep Career
Allen was a star wide receiver, cornerback and kick returner at Tucker High School in Tucker, GA. He was the No. 5 ranked cornerback in the class of 2006 according to ESPN's Scouts Inc, and chose to enroll early at Georgia after also considering LSU, Auburn, Florida and Clemson.
College Career
Allen recorded 24 total tackles as a freshman in 2006, while also returning 19 kickoffs for 420 yards. During his sophomore season, he started 11 times in 13 games, recording 64 total tackles. He capped off his sophomore season by recording a pair of interceptions in Georgia's rout of Hawaii in the 2008 Sugar Bowl. He also set a school record as a sophomore with 690 yards on 28 kickoff returns. Allen was one of 13 semifinalists for the Thorpe Award as the best defensive back in the nation as a junior, finishing with 53 total tackles. He recorded a season-high nine tackles in Georgia's Capital One Bowl victory over Michigan State, and scored a touchdown on a fumble recovery against South Carolina.
NFL Career
Asher Allen was selected in the third round (86th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. Before the 2009 season, Allen signed a contract with Minnesota. Terms were not disclosed.
