A graduate of Beddingfield High School in Wilson, NC, Everette Brown didn't start thinking seriously about a football career until his junior year of high school. Scout.com named him as the No. 23 prospect at his position. He considered Georgia, North Carolina, NC State and Virginia Tech before signing with Florida State.
Freshman Year
After redshirting the 2005 season, Brown debuted in 2006, playing all 13 games and starting three times. He had 27 tackles in 13 games, nine of which came in his three starts. His three sacks were tied for third on the team, and he also blocked a kick. He earned Freshman All-America honors from The Sporting News.
Sophomore Year
As a sophomore, Brown had 37 tackles, 11.5 of which were for a loss. Both numbers led Florida State defensive lineman. His 6.5 sacks were more than double his total from his freshman season, and led the team. He again played in all 13 games, making nine starts. At one point, he had a streak of four straight games with a sack, the longest streak for any Florida State player since 2005.
Junior Year
Brown's progression continued in 2008, when he started all 13 games for the Seminoles. Despite switching from left to right defensive end, Brown didn't miss a beat. He recorded 36 total tackles, 21.5 of which went for loss. Not only was that a team high, but it was the third-best total among FBS players. His 13.5 sacks ranked third in the nation. He finished his Florida State career with 23 sacks, good for seventh on the school's all-time list. His 46.5 career tackles for loss were second in school history, behind only Darnell Dockett. That game was the culmination of a run that saw Brown record at least three sacks three times in a five-game span. He had at least one tackle for loss in each of those five games. In 2008, Florida State was 6-0 when Brown had a sack, and 3-3 when he was shut out. For his season, Brown was a first-team All-America selection, first team All-ACC selection and finished as the runner-up to Georgia Tech's Jonathan Dwyer as the ACC Defensive Player of the Year.
