Overview
Herman Johnson III is an offensive lineman with the Arizona Cardinals. Johnson played four years of college football at Louisiana State University, where he was a first team All-SEC selection. Johnson is 6-feet, 7-inches tall and weighs 386 pounds. Johnson weighed 15 pounds, 14 ounces at birth, making him one of the largest children ever born in the state of Louisiana.
Prep Career
Johson did not allow a single sack during his senior season at Denton High School in Denton, TX. Johnson was the No. 3-ranked offensive tackle and No. 30 overall prospect in the class of 2004 according to rivals.com. He considered Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Houston in his recruiting process, but eventually signed with LSU, returning to his birth state.
College Career
In his first season at LSU, Johnson missed all of fall camp due to an infection from a spider bite, then played in only two games before being granted a medical redshirt. He played 11 games in 2005, starting against Vanderbilt for the first time in his career. As a sophomore, Johnson started 10 times (eight at right guard and two at left guard). He became a full-time starter at left guard during LSU's national championship season of 2007, playing 1,030 snaps. He was a consensus first-team All-SEC selection. Despite LSU's dropoff from 2007, Johnson repeated as a first team All-SEC selection in 2008. He started all 13 games for the Tigers, who allowed 22 sacks and rushed for 2,168 yards as a team.
NFL Career
Herman Johnson was drafted in the fifth round (167th overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. He signed a 3-year/1.305M contract with the Cardinals prior to the 2009 season.
