Overview
Hunter Cantwell is a former quarterback at Louisville who is currently on the practice squad of the Carolina Panthers. After playing four seasons for the Cardinals, one as a full-time starter, Cantwell was eligible to be selected in the 2009 NFL Draft but went undrafted. Cantwell is 6-feet, 5-inches tall and weighs 225 pounds.
Prep Career
Cantwell was the all-time passing leader at Paducah Tilghman High School in Paducah, KY, throwing for 7,272 yards and 70 TD. Despite this, Cantwell wasn't offered a scholarship by any major program.
2005-2007
Cantwell walked on at Louisville, and played primarily as a backup to Brian Brohm in his first three seasons with the Cardinals. He started two games each in 2005 and 2006 when Brohm was hurt. He started the 2006 Gator Bowl at the end of his freshman season, throwing for 216 yards and three touchdowns in Louisville's loss to Virginia Tech.
2008
After throwing for 1,419 yards and TD in his first three seasons, Cantwell won the starting job as a senior. He threw for 2,493 yards and 16 touchdowns as a senior; however, Louisville went 5-7, finishing below .500 for the first time since 1997.
Professional Career
Cantwell was eligible to be selected in the 2009 NFL Draft, but went undrafted. He signed a free agent contract with the Carolina Panthers. After going 9-of-16 for 120 yards and a touchdown in the preseason, Cantwell was waived on Sept. 5, 2009, but added to the practice squad a day later.
