Overview
Kevin Ellison is a safety for the San Diego Chargers, who selected him with the 189th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He entered the 2009 NFL Draft following his senior year at the Univeristy of Southern California. Ellison is 6-feet, 1-inches tall and weighs 230 pounds.
Prep Career
Kevin Ellison was a star running back and linebacker at Redondo Union High School (CA). As a senior, Ellison rushed for 1,661 yards and 32 touchdowns. Ellison was named the 32nd-ranked outside linebacker by Rivals.com and committed to USC in December 2004.
College Career
During his freshman season in 2005, Ellison saw significant playing time on special teams and as a backup safety in the Trojans' first three games. However, Ellison tore knee ligaments, ending his season early. Ellison started every game for USC during his sophomore and junior seasons. Over that two-year span he picked off three passes and helped lead USC to two Rose Bowl victories. As a senior in 2008, Ellison helped anchor the nation's top-ranked scoring defense. However, Ellison missed five games, including the Rose Bowl, after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery in early November to repair a torn ligament. Despite missing a significant portion of the season, he was still named first team All-Pac 10.
NFL Career
Ellison was selected in the sixth round (189th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers. Before the 2009 season, Ellison signed a four-year contract with San Diego.
Personal
Ellison's older brother Keith played outside linebacker at Oregon State and is a current member of the Buffalo Bills.
