Overview
Louis Vasquez is a guard for the San Diego Chargers, who selected him with the 78th overall pick in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Vasquez played four seasons of college football at Texas Tech, where he was a three-time All-Big 12 selection. Vasquez is 6-feet, 6-inches tall and weighs 335 pounds.
Prep Career
At Corsicana High School in Corsicana, TX, Vasquez was an all-state tackle as a senior. He recorded 56 pancake blocks and didn't allow a sack in 2004. He committed to Texas Tech after making a visit to the school during the summer of 2004. He also visited Oklahoma State, Texas and Texas A&M.
Sophomore Year
After playing five games as a reserve in 2005, Vasquez became a starter in 2006, earning honorable mention All-Big 12 honors. He helped lead an offensive line that reduced its sacks allowed from 36 in 2005 to 18 in 2006.
Junior Year
Vasquez didn't allow a sack in 13 games played in 2007, and the Texas Tech offensive line allowed only 18 in 763 pass attempts. Vasquez was an honorable mention All-Big 12 selection for the second consecutive year.
Senior Year
As a senior, Vasquez earned second team All-Big 12 honors and was a third team All-America selection by the Associated Press. He anchored an offensive line that allowed only 11 sacks in more than 600 pass attempts. After the 2008 season, Vasquez was selected to participate in the 2009 East-West Shrine Game.
NFL Career
Vasquez was selected in the third round (78th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers. Before the 2009 season, Vasquez signed a four-year/$2.55M contract with San Diego.
