Overview
Britton Colquitt is a former punter at The University of Tennessee, where he played four seasons. Colquitt, younger brother of All-America punter Dustin Colquitt, is the fourth member of his family to punt at Tennessee. After exhausting his eligibility with the Volunteers, Colquitt was eligible to be selected in the 2009 NFL Draft but went undrafted.
Prep Career
A native of Knoxville, Colquitt originally signed in 2003 out of Bearden HS, but decided to delay enrollment until January 2004. Britton was named AP and Sportswriters All-State in both his junior and senior seasons. Colquitt was also a key member of his high-school soccer team that went 25-0 in 2002, won a second consecutive state title, and finished No. 1 in the NSCAA/Adidas national rankings.
Freshman Year
As a redshirt freshman in 2005, Colquitt played in 11 games. He punted 59 times during the season and averaged 41.2 yards per punt with 19 kicks downed inside the 20-yard line. Britton was recognized by Collegefootballnews.com as a third-team Freshman All-American.
Sophomore Year
In 2006, Colquitt was named consensus first-team All-SEC after finishing second in SEC and seventh nationally with a 44.9-yard average (fourth best mark in school history), and had 18 punts downed inside 20 versus only four touchbacks. He also averaged at least 44 yards per punt in 10 of 12 games during the 2006 season.
Junior Year
As a junior, he was named second team All-SEC selection by league coaches and writers. He did not play against Southern Miss because of a nagging quadriceps injury, snapping a streak of 71 straight UT games in which the Vols' starting punter was a member of the Colquitt family.
Senior Year
During his senior season, Britton Colquitt was suspended for the Vols' first five games of the 2008 season following charges of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident. This marked his second suspension from the team; he was also suspended as a freshman in 2004 when he faced multiple alcohol-related charges stemming from several incidents. As a senior, Colquitt played seven games and averaged 43.4 yards per punt.
Professional Career
Colquitt was eligible to be selected in the 2009 NFL Draft, but went undrafted. He signed a free-agent contract with the Denver Broncos. He punted six times during the preseason, averaging a net of 40.3 yards per punt, but was released on Sept. 1, 2009.
