Overview
Ian Campbell is a former defensive end at Kansas State, where he was a three-time All-Big 12 selection. After playing four seasons for the Wildcats, Campbell was eligible to be selected in the 2009 NFL Draft, but went undrafted. He signed a free-agent contract with the St. Louis Rams. Campbell is 6-feet, 5-inches tall and weighs 255 pounds.
Prep Career
Campbell set the career tackles record at Cimarron High School in Cimarron, KS, totaling 324 tackles in his career. He was an honorable mention all-state selection at linebacker in both his junior and senior seasons, and chose to walk on at Kansas State.
Freshman Year
Campbell redshirted the 2004 season and played sparingly in 2005.
Sophomore Year
Campbell earned a scholarship prior to the 2006 season. That season, he became a starter at defensive end for Kansas State. In 2006, Campbell led the Big 12 in tackles for loss with 17.5, and set a Kansas State single-season record with 11.5 sacks. A semifinalist for the Hendricks Award as the top defensive end in the nation, Campbell was a first team All-Big 12 selection and earned honorable mention All-America honors from Sports Illustrated.
Junior Year
In 2007, Campbell moved to linebacker but also started at defensive end when needed. He finished the season with 45 total tackles and led Kansas State with 11.0 tackles for loss. He had four fumble recoveries as a junior, leading the Big 12 and coming up one short of Kansas State's single-season record. Despite bouncing between multiple positions, Campbell earned first team All-Big 12 honors from the league's coaches.
Senior Year
As a senior, Campbell again played primarily on the defensive line, finishing the season with 47 total tackles, 8.0 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. He was a second team All-Big 12 selection at defensive line. Campbell finished his Kansas State career with 20.5 sacks, ranking fifth in school history. After the 2008 season, Campbell was selected to play in the Texas vs the Nation Classic. After that game, Campbell was invited to participate in the Senior Bowl.
Pro Career
Ian Campbell went undrafted in the 2009 NFL Draft, but signed a free-agent contract with the St. Louis Rams. He was cut by the team prior to the 2009 season and joined the Rams practice squad.
