Prep Career
Bruggeman was a first team all-state selection as both a junior and senior at Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, IA. Despite being a three-year letterman, Bruggeman was not offered a scholarship by any major program
College Career
Bruggeman chose to walk on at Iowa, where he was redshirted in 2004. He played twice in 2005, then was limited by injury in 2006 and 2007. Bruggeman became Iowa's starting center as a senior, playing a career-high 13 games. With Bruggeman anchoring the Hawkeyes offensive line, Iowa won a bowl game for the first time since the 2004 season, beating South Carolina in the Outback Bowl.
Professional Career
Bruggeman was eligible to be selected in the 2009 NFL Draft, but went undrafted. He signed a free agent contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but was released at the end of the preseason. Bruggeman was signed to the practice squad of the Atlanta Falcons.
