Rashad Jennings is a running back for the Jacksonville Jaguars, who selected him with the 250th pick in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Jennings played one season with Pittsburgh, then transferred to Liberty, where he was a two-time Big South Offensive Player of the Year. Jennings is 6-feet, 1-inch tall and weighs 230 pounds.
Prep Career
Jennings rushed for 3,287 yards and 56 touchdowns in two seasons at Liberty Christian Academy in Lynchburg, VA. Despite those numbers, most schools recruited him as a defensive end. However, he attended football camp at Pittsburgh, and they determined he could be a college running back. He chose Pitt over Virginia Tech.
Freshman Year
At Pitt, Jennings started the season opener, and finished second on the team with 411 rushing yards. However, Jennings' father had to have his leg amputated near the end of 2005, so Jennings decided to transfer to Liberty to be closer to home.
Sophomore Year
In 2006, Jennings started nine time in 11 games for Liberty, leading the team with 1,020 rushing yards. He earned first team All-Big South honors, and finished second in the conference in rushing yards, just two behind leader Sean Mizzer.
Junior Year
Jennings was suspended by the NCAA for the first two games of the 2007 season due to a rules violation. He incorrectly received a housing stipend from the school, and though he gave the money back, he still had to sit out two games. Despite playing only nine games, he finished second in the Big South in total rushing yards (1,113) and set a conference record with 15 rushing touchdowns. Jennings was named Big South Offensive Player of the Year and earned honorable mention All-America honors.
Senior Year
As a senior, Jennings repeated as the Big South's Offensive Player of the Year. He led Liberty to its second consecutive Big South title and a school-record 10 wins in 2008. Jennings rushed for a conference-record 1,500 yards in 11 games and broke his own record with 17 rushing touchdowns. After the 2008 season, Jennings was invited to participate in the 2009 Senior Bowl. He led the South team in rushing with 41 yards on nine attempts.
NFL Career
Rashad Jennings was selected in the seventh round (250th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Before the 2009 season, Jennings signed a four-year contract with Jacksonville.
Jennings has two brothers with football experience. Butch Jennings was a standout running back at VMI and Liberty. Bryan Jennings was a tight end at Virginia Tech who played one season in the NFL with the San Diego Chargers.
