Overview
Antonio Appleby is a former linebacker at Virginia, where he was a three-year starter. After playing four seasons for the Cavaliers, Appleby was eligible for the 2009 NFL Draft but went undrafted. Appleby is 6-feet, 4-inches, and 250 pounds.
Prep Career
Antonio Appleby was a SuperPrep All-American at Salem High School at Virginia Beach, VA. He ranked as the nation's No. 25 linebacker by SuperPrep and No. 30 by Scout. On offense, he was listed as the nation's No. 9 tight end by ESPN.com and No. 27 by CollegeFootballNews.com. As a senior in 2004, he was rated as the sixth best player in Virginia by SuperPrep and Scout and No. 14 by Rivals. He was a second-team All-State defensive lineman, finishing with 53 tackles, eight for loss, and six quarterback sacks despite missing three games with an injury. He was All-Beach District as a defensive lineman and second-team at tight end in 2004.
College Career
Appleby played four seasons for Virginia and missed just one game (due to an ankle injury as a senior). His best season came in his final year in 2008, when he recorded 72 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and had his first career interception. He recorded at least 60 tackles in each of his last three seasons with the Cavaliers, starting every game he played in that time span.
Professional Career
Appleby was eligible to be selected in the 2009 NFL Draft, but went undrafted. He signed a free-agent contract with the New England Patriots. Before the start of training camp, the Patriots waived Appleby. He is currently a free agent.
