Roy Miller is a defensive tackle for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who selected him with the 81st overall pick in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Miller played four seasons of college football at Texas, where he was a two-time All-Big 12 selection. Miller is 6-feet, 2- inches tall and weighs 295 pounds.
Miller was a two-time all-state selection at Shoemaker High School in Killeen, TX. Following his senior season, he was named a captain in the 2005 U.S. Army All-American Bowl, and recorded two sacks in that game. He finished his high school career with 264 total tackles and 24 sacks, leading to Scout.com ranking him as the No. 8 defensive tackle recruit in the class of 2005. He committed to Oklahoma before he senior season, but de-committed in late 2004 and signed with Texas.
Miller played 10 games as a true freshman for the Longhorns and had 10 total tackles. He recorded one tackle each in the Big 12 Championship Game and the Rose Bowl against USC, the latter of which gave Texas a national championship.
As a sophomore, Miller moved into the starting lineup for the final six games for Texas, finishing the season with 26 total tackles and 2.0 sacks. He helped the Longhorns rank third in the nation in rushing defense.
Miller started all 13 games for Texas in 2007, earning honorable mention All-Big 12 honors from the league's coaches. He had 40 total tackles as Texas ranked sixth in the nation in rushing defense.
Miller anchored the Longhorns defense again in 2008, finishing the season with 49 total tackles (11 for loss) and 5.5 sacks. He was a first team All-Big 12 selection, helping Texas lead the conference in scoring defense. He capped off his career with three tackles and a sack against Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl, earning Defensive MVP honors. After the 2008 season, Miller was invited to participate in the 2009 East-West Shrine Game. He recorded six total tackles, which tied for the team lead in a losing effort for the West team.
Miller was selected in the third round (81st overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Before the 2009 season, Miller signed a four-year contract with Tampa Bay.
Roy Miller was the Defensive MVP of the 2009 Fiesta Bowl, and was selected in the 3rd round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He's the highest-selected Fiesta Bowl Defensive MVP since the Packers took A.J. Hawk (2005 MVP) 5th overall.
