Overview
Joel Richard Bell is an offensive tackle for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League. Bell played college football at Furman, where he was an FCS All-America selection. After playing four seasons for the Paladins, Bell was eligible to be selected in the 2009 NFL Draft, but went undrafted.
Prep Career
Bell was a two-year starter at Spartanburg High School in Spartanburg, SC, where he also played basketball and competed in track and field. He earned all-region honors as a senior.
College Career
At Furman, Bell set a record as the tallest offensive lineman in team history. Bell was a three-year starter, after redshirting in 2004 and playing as a reserve in 2005. He was honored as an All-Southern Conference selection in each of his three years as a starter, earning second team honors in 2006 and first team honors in both 2007. During Bell's senior season, he served as a team captain, and won the Southern Conference's Jacobs Blocking Award as the best offensive lineman in the conference. He was a consensus FCS All-America selection, and was chosen to play in the Texas vs The Nation All-Star Classic.
Professional Career
Bell was eligible to be selected in the 2009 NFL Draft, but went undrafted. He signed a free-agent contract with the Buffalo Bills, but was released on June 11, 2009. Bell signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League.
