Overview
Michael Hamlin is a safety for the Dallas Cowboys, who selected him with the 166th pick in the fifth round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Hamlin started four seasons at Clemson, where he was a first team All-ACC selection. Hamlin is 6-feet, 3-inches tall and weighs 205 pounds.
Prep Career
Hamlin played wide receiver and safety at Lamar High School in Lamar, SC. He had 23 career interceptions, and was an all-state selection as both a junior and a senior. Hamlin was ranked as the No. 9 overall prospect in South Carolina by rivals.com. He visited Clemson, South Carolina and Duke, but decided on Clemson on signing day in 2004.
College Career
After redshirting in 2004, Hamlin became a starter six games into the 2005 season. He started for the rest of his career, missing three games in 2006 due to a broken foot. Hamlin finished second on the team in total tackles in both 2007 and 2008. He finished his career with 326 total tackles. Hamlin had 14 career interceptions, including a team-high six in 2008, when he earned first team All-ACC honors.
NFL Career
Hamlin was selected in the fifth round (166th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. Before the 2009 season, Hamlin signed a four-year contract with Dallas.
Personal
Hamlin's brother Markee is a defensive back at South Carolina State. The two played against each other in 2008, with Michael Hamlin's Clemson squad winning 54-0.
