Prep Career
A native of St. Henry, OH, Boeckman was a four-year starter who led St. Henry to the Division V state title game as a freshman. A letterman in basketball and baseball, Boeckman was named all-state in both sports. He even averaged 18.6 points per game as a junior.
Ohio State Backup
Boeckman graduated from St. Henry in the spring of 2003 and enrolled at OSU part-time the following fall. He took part in fall drills until classes started and in Fiesta Bowl practice before enrolling full-time the Winter Quarter of 2004. During his redshirt freshman season in 2004, Boeckman served as an emergency backup to Justin Zwick and Troy Smith until Zwick injured his shoulder. The injury forced Boeckman to become the Buckeyes' primary backup for the remainder of the season. As a freshman in 2005, Boeckman played in three games against Miami, Minnesota and Northwestern, connecting for a 42-yard TD strike to Ted Ginn Jr. vs Miami. His sophomore season was more of the same, playing in three games against Cincinnati, Indiana and Northwestern.
Junior Year
A first-year starter in 2007 as a junior, Boeckman was named first team all-Big Ten by the media, leading the Big Ten in passing efficiency with a 148.94 rating. A Davey O'Brien Award semifinalist, he finished his junior season with 2,379 pass yards, 25 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions.
Senior Year
As a senior, Boeckman started the first three games of the season, before being replaced by freshman phenom Terrelle Pryor. Playing in eight games, Boeckman finished his senior season with 620 passing yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions.
Professional Career
Boeckman went undrafted in the 2009 NFL Draft. On June 17, 2009, Boeckman signed a free-agent contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was waived by the Jaguars two days before training camp began, but re-signed on August 30, 2009. He did not throw a pass in the Jaguars final preseason game, and was waived on Sept. 5, 2009.
