Overview
Tiquan Underwood is a wide receiver for the Jacksonville Jaguars, who selected him with the 253rd overall pick in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Underwood played four seasons at Rutgers. Underwood is 6-feet, 2-inches tall and weighs 185 pounds. His first name is pronounced ty-KWAN.
Prep Career
Underwood's senior season at Notre Dame High School in Lawrenceville, NJ was ended by an injury in the third game of the season. He had 17 receptions for 400 yards prior to his injury. He played quarterback during his junior campaign, throwing for 1,144 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also rushed for two touchdowns and caught five passes for scores. In his sophomore season he had 10 touchdown receptions. Underwood earned All-County honors as a sophomore and junior. He also played basketball and ran track at Notre Dame. Underwood chose Rutgers over Vanderbilt.
College Career
As a true freshman in 2005, Underwood appeared in all 12 games for the Scarlet Knights and led the Big East in kick return average (27.1). As a sophomore, he again played in all 12 games, making nine starts, and led the team in touchdown receptions with four. Underwood was a First Team All-Big East selection as a junior. He had 65 receptions for 1,100 yards and seven touchdowns. In the Rutgers' single-season record book, Underwood's junior season ranks third in receiving yards, fourth in receptions and tied for fourth in touchdown receptions. Underwood finished his senior season with 40 receptions for 494 yards and five touchdowns. For his career, Underwood ranked tied for third in school history with 16 touchdown receptions, seventh in receiving yards with 1,931, and eighth in receptions with 132. Underwood was selected to play in the 2009 Texas vs the Nation All-Star Challenge, but did not participate.
NFL Career
Underwood was selected in the seventh round (253rd overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Underwood was waived following the 2009 preseason, but added to the team's practice squad a day later. On Sept. 23, 2009, Underwood was promoted to the Jaguars active roster.
