Matt Slauson is an offensive lineman for the New York Jets, who selected him with the 193rd overall pick in the sixth round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Slauson played four seasons at Nebraska, where he was a three-time All-Big 12 selection. Slauson is 6-feet, 5-inches tall and weighs 320 pounds.
Slauson began his high school career at Sweet Home High School in Sweet Home, OR. He moved to Colorado Springs, CO for his senior year of high school, playing at Air Academy High. After that, he spent a season at the Air Force Academy Prep School, before joining Nebraska in the fall of 2005.
Despite being a late addition to Nebraska's signing class, Slauson played as a true freshman, starting at right tackle for the final two regular season games and the Alamo Bowl against Michigan.
As a sophomore, Slauson started the first 11 games of the year at right tackle, before suffering a leg injury against Texas A&M. That forced Slauson to miss the regular season finale against Colorado, as well as the Big 12 Championship Game against Oklahoma. He returned in a reserve role for the Cotton Bowl against Auburn. Slauson was a second team All-Big 12 selection.
Slauson moved inside to guard for the 2007 season, playing all 12 games for Nebraska. After rotating as the starter at right guard for the first 10 games of the season, Slauson started at left tackle against Kansas State and right tackle against Colorado. Despite the position shuffling, Slauson still earned honorable mention All-Big 12 honors.
In his final season at Nebraska, Slauson started all 13 games, helping Nebraska rank in the top 20 nationally in passing, scoring and total offense. He earned All-Big 12 honors for the third straight year, this time as a second team selection. After the 2008 season, Slauson was chosen to participate in the 2009 East-West Shrine Game, where he blocked for Nebraska teammate Marlon Lucky on the East team.
Slauson was selected in the sixth round (193rd overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft by the New York Jets. Before the 2009 season, Slauson signed a contract with the Jets. Terms were not disclosed.
