Overview
William Moore is a safety for the Atlanta Falcons, who selected him with the 55th overall pick in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Moore played college football at the University of Missouri, where he holds the school record for most career interception returns for touchdowns. Moore is 6-feet, 1-inch tall and weighs 230 pounds.
Prep Career
Moore played wide receiver and cornerback at Hayti High School in Hayti, MO, where he also played high school basketball. Moore finished his high school career with 74 receptions for 1,768 yards and 34 touchdowns. He was ranked as the No. 64 wide receiver in the nation in the class of 2004, according to Rivals.com. He signed with Missouri after also considering a scholarship offer from Ole Miss.
Freshman Year
Moore made the transition from cornerback to safety during his redshirt season in 2004, and played nine games as a redshirt freshman in 2005, despite missing three games early in the season due to a severe hamstring injury suffered against Arkansas State . He started twice that season, including Missouri's Independence Bowl win over South Carolina, during which he suffered a broken foot on the first series.
Sophomore Year
Moore recovered from his injury in time to play all 13 games as a sophomore. He started four times at free safety, and saw action at both safety positions. He finished second on Missouri with eight pass breakups.
Junior Year
Moore's best college season came in 2007. He totaled 117 tackles and set a Missouri record with eight interceptions, tied for the most in the nation. He was a second team All-America selection by The Associated Press, Sports illustrated and The Sporting News, and capped off his season by earning Defensive MVP honors in Missouri's win in the Cotton Bowl. In that game, Moore suffered a torn labrum, which slowed his progress in spring practice.
Senior Year
In 2008, Moore injured his foot in Missouri's season opener and missed two of the Tigers' first four games of the season. Despite playing at less than 100 percent for most of the season, Moore still finished with 86 total tackles, good for third on the team. He had just one interception, against Iowa State, but returned it 17 yards for a touchdown. It was the fourth interception return TD of his career, breaking the school record previously held by Erik McMillan.
NFL Career
