Overview
Kevin Barnes is a cornerback for the Washington Redskins, who selected him with the 80th overall pick in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Barnes played four seasons at the University of Maryland. Barnes is 6-feet, 1-inch tall and weighs 188 pounds.
Prep Career
At Old Mill High School in Glen Burnie, MD, Barnes was a two-year starter at both cornerback and wide receiver. Scout.com ranked him as the No. 67 cornerback in the class of 2004. In his two years as a starter, Barnes had 27 receptions and nine interceptions.
College Career
Barnes sat out the 2004 season as a redshirt, then played sparingly over the next two seasons. He became a starter during his junior season with the Terrapins, recording a career-high 65 tackles. His four interceptions in 2007 led the team and were tied for sixth in the ACC. Barnes's senior season was cut short when he suffered a fractured shoulder blade against Wake Forest. He was forced to sit out the final seven games of the season. He finished his Maryland career with 100 total tackles and six interceptions.
NFL Career
Kevin Barnes was selected in the third round (80th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins. Before the 2009 season, Barnes signed a contract with Washington. Terms were not disclosed.
