Overview
Christopher Owens is a cornerback for the Atlanta Falcons, who selected him with the 90th pick in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Owens played college football at San Jose State, where he was a two-time All-WAC selection. Owens is 5-feet, 10-inches tall and weighs 170 pounds.
Prep Career
Owens lettered in football at Dorsey High School in Los Angeles, where he had five interceptions as a senior.
Freshman Year
Playing mostly as a reserve for San Jose State in 2005, Owens recorded 35 total tackles and had a pair of interceptions.
Sophomore Year
Owens moved into the starting lineup in 2006 and had four interceptions, which ranked second on the team and tied for sixth in the Western Athletic Conference. Two of his four interceptions came in a win over Fresno State, his only career multi-interception game.
Junior Year
As a junior, Owens earned second team All-WAC honors, finishing the season with 76 total tackles and a career-high six interceptions, which led the conference.
Senior Year
Owens intercepted a pass in the 2008 season opener against UC Davis but didn't have another interception for the rest of his senior season. He did finish with 68 tackles, good for third on the team, and led the team with eight pass breakups, earning first team All-WAC honors. After the 2009 season, Owens was selected to participate in the 2009 Texas vs The Nation All-Star Classic, where he had one tackle for the Texas team in a loss.
Personal
Owens has an older brother, Alvin Owens Jr., who played pro football with the San Diego Riptide of arenafootball2.
NFL Career
Owens was selected in the third round (90th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. Before the 2009 season, Owens signed a contract with Atlanta. Terms were not disclosed.
