Overview
Sebastian Georg Vollmer is an offensive tackle for the New England Patriots, who selected him with the 58th overall pick in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Vollmer played college football at the University of Houston, where he was a first team All-Conference USA selection. Vollmer is 6-feet, 8-inches tall and weighs 315 pounds. His last name is pronounced VOLL-mer.
Prep Career
Vollmer is a native of Kaarst, Germany, where he played football at Quirinus Gymnasium. He helped lead his team to a 25-0 record in his career, and was recruited by Western Michigan, Louisiana Tech and Indiana before deciding on Houston.
College Career
Vollmer played just eight games in his first three years at Houston, sitting out 2004 as a redshirt and missing all of 2006 with a back injury. He became the Cougars starting left tackle in 2007, helping Houston average more than 500 yards and 34 points per game. As a senior, Vollmer led the way for the Cougars to rush for 2,095 yards as a team. He was a first-team All-Conference USA selection, as Houston reached a bowl game for the fourth straight season.
NFL Career
Vollmer was selected in the second round (58th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. Before the 2009 season, Vollmer signed a contract with New England. Terms were not disclosed.
