Kobe Bryant and Phil Jackson become the 6th "perennial All-Star"/head coach combination to win at least 4 titles since 1970-71. They join a couple of great Laker duos from the 1980s, Phil Jackson with Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen in the 1990s, and the Spurs' Tim Duncan and Gregg Popovich, who have won 4 titles together in the past decade.

First-Time Coach Loses Again

Stan Van Gundy winds up on the losing end in his first NBA Finals appearance, but he shouldn't hang his head. The previous 10 coaches making their Finals debut with a team that did not have home-court advantage (the team that is generally the "underdog" in the series) also lost in the Finals. The last coach to win in that situation was Pat Riley, who led the Lakers to a title in his first Finals appearance in 1982.
