He averaged double digits in points and assists and was one of the league leaders in steals for 10 straight seasons. Two of his best statistical seasons were in 1989-90 and 1990-91 when he averaged 17.2 points and 14.5 assists and 17.2 and 14.2, respectively.
He was selected as the co-MVP of the 1993 All-Star Game in Salt Lake City after scoring nine points and handing out 15 assists as the West topped the East, 135-132 in overtime.
He teamed with Karl Malone to form one of the most lethal inside-outside combinations in NBA history. The duo led the Jazz to the 1997 and 1998 NBA Finals, where they lost both times to the Bulls.
Stockton played in all 82 games in 17 of his 19 seasons -- with the Jazz making the playoffs each season. He led the league in steals twice and in assists nine times. In 1988, he tied an NBA playoff single-game record by tallying 24 assists against the Lakers. He averaged 13.1 points and 10.5 assists for his career and is the NBA all-time leader in assists (15,806) and steals (3,265). His other records include most total assists in a season (1,164) and highest average for a season (14.5).
He played 1,504 games -- third all-time -- before retiring after the 2002-03 season.
