Brown was a McDonald's All-America selection as a senior and the No. 2-ranked shooting guard recruit in the class of 2003 (behind LeBron James). Brown was the second-leading scorer (23 points) behind James in the McDonald's All-America game, and shared MVP honors with James at the 2003 Jordan Capital Classic, the final high school game of both their careers.
As a junior, Brown was one of three Spartans to average at least 17 PPG, finishing with a career-high 17.2 PPG in 34 games. Brown also averaged 1.5 steals per game, earning second team All-Big Ten honors and all-defensive team honors. After Michigan State was upset in the first round of the NCAA Tournament by George Mason, Brown decided to forgo his final year of eligibility and enter the 2006 NBA Draft.
During the 2007-08 season, Brown played just 15 games for the Cavaliers before being traded to the Chicago Bulls as part of the package that brought Ben Wallace and Joe Smith to Cleveland. Stuck in a crowded Chicago backcourt, Brown played only six games for the Bulls before leaving as a free agent in the summer of 2008.
After signing a one-year deal with the Charlotte Bobcats in the offseason, Brown played in 30 games, averaging 4.8 PPG. On Feb. 7, 2009, he was traded with Adam Morrison to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Vladimir Radmanovic. Brown played 18 regular season games for the Lakers in '08-09, then saw his role increase in the postseason, taking minutes away from the struggling Jordan Farmar and Derek Fisher. He had played in every postseason game for Los Angeles in the 2009 Playoffs entering the Finals, but sat out two games in the Finals, including the Lakers title-clinching win in Game 5.
After the Finals, Brown re-signed with the Lakers, receiving a two-year/$4.2M contract. In 2010, he was selected to compete in the Slam Dunk Contest at All-Star Weekend.
