Overview
Shannon Brown is a guard with the Los Angeles Lakers, who acquired him from the Charlotte Bobcats during the 2008-09 season. Brown has played for four teams during his three-season NBA career, which began when he was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Brown is listed at 6-feet, 4-inches tall and 211 pounds.
Prep Career
Brown was a star shooting guard at Proviso East High School in Maywood, IL, where he played alongside future Illinois and NBA player Dee Brown. Shannon Brown averaged 18 points per game as a junior, and earned AAU All-America honors while leading the Illinois Warriors to the 2001 AAU National Championship.

Brown was a McDonald's All-America selection as a senior and the No. 2-ranked shooting guard recruit in the class of 2003 (behind LeBron James). Brown was the second-leading scorer (23 points) behind James in the McDonald's All-America game, and shared MVP honors with James at the 2003 Jordan Capital Classic, the final high school game of both their careers.
College Career
Brown played as a reserve early in his career at Michigan State, averaging 7.9 PPG as a freshman. He reached double figures as a sophomore, averaging 10.9 PPG in 25.1 minutes per game while helping Michigan State reach the Final Four.

As a junior, Brown was one of three Spartans to average at least 17 PPG, finishing with a career-high 17.2 PPG in 34 games. Brown also averaged 1.5 steals per game, earning second team All-Big Ten honors and all-defensive team honors. After Michigan State was upset in the first round of the NCAA Tournament by George Mason, Brown decided to forgo his final year of eligibility and enter the 2006 NBA Draft.
Professional Career
Brown was selected 25th overall in the 2006 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers, and was expected to provide a scoring threat alongside fellow Class of 2003 star LeBron James. However, Brown struggled with the transition to the NBA, where he was being used more as a point guard than his familiar shooting guard spot. He lost playing time to second-round pick Daniel Gibson, and ended up playing just 23 games as a rookie. He appeared in one game during the 2007 Playoffs, seeing one minute of action during Game 4 of the 2007 NBA Finals.

During the 2007-08 season, Brown played just 15 games for the Cavaliers before being traded to the Chicago Bulls as part of the package that brought Ben Wallace and Joe Smith to Cleveland. Stuck in a crowded Chicago backcourt, Brown played only six games for the Bulls before leaving as a free agent in the summer of 2008.

After signing a one-year deal with the Charlotte Bobcats in the offseason, Brown played in 30 games, averaging 4.8 PPG. On Feb. 7, 2009, he was traded with Adam Morrison to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Vladimir Radmanovic. Brown played 18 regular season games for the Lakers in '08-09, then saw his role increase in the postseason, taking minutes away from the struggling Jordan Farmar and Derek Fisher. He had played in every postseason game for Los Angeles in the 2009 Playoffs entering the Finals, but sat out two games in the Finals, including the Lakers title-clinching win in Game 5.

After the Finals, Brown re-signed with the Lakers, receiving a two-year/$4.2M contract.
