Kyle Schwarber was kicked out of the game by home plate umpire John Tumpane after arguing a called strike 3 that looked high. He and Tumpane began arguing before Javy Baez got in between them to help settle Schwarber down. Joe Maddon then had his say with the umpire also. Schwarber had a questionable strike 1 call on him in the previous at-bat as well.

Kris Bryant gets a rare day off as the Cubs complete a busy stretch in Cincinnati today. Ian Happ will play third base while Javy Baez is at SS giving Addison Russell a breather.

Cubs OF Ian Happ hit the franchise's 14,000th HR tonight. He was also the fastest to 20 homers (last season) in team history and has hit a home run from both sides of the plate in a game and now both ends of a doubleheader. Plus, he delivered the weather on the weather channel earlier this week. But it's those home runs he'll remember the most: “There have been some cool ones. For a storied organization, to have some of those with your name on them, that's special.”

Happ, Cubs rout Reds 10-0 for doubleheader split

Ian Happ hit his second home run of the doubleheader, Jason Heyward tied his career high with four RBI and Jose Quintana allowed one hit in seven shutdown innings as the Chicago Cubs beat the Cincinnati Reds 10-0 Saturday night for a split.

The Cubs have scored 10 or more runs an MLB leading 9 times after reaching that number in Game 2 of their doubleheader against the Reds on Saturday. They came into the game averaging an NL leading 5.26 runs per game. That average increased again after their 10 run output against Cincinnati.

Ian Happ has homered in both ends of the doubleheader against the Reds today making him the first Cub since Chris Coghlan in 2014 to achieve that accomplishment. He's been on base 11 times in 2.5 games of the series so far, including 4 times via IBB. Happ was a candidate to be sent down to the minors not that long ago but he's gotten hot, raising his OBP to over .350.

Cubs, Reds involved in bench-clearing incident

Reds left-hander Amir Garrett and Chicago Cubs second baseman Javier Baez exchanged words after Baez struck out to end the seventh inning, sparking a bench-clearing incident that was quickly defused after a brief scuffle.

The Cubs and Reds had a bench clearing moment in the 7th inning as Cubs infielder Javy Baez and Reds reliever Amir Garrett had words after Garrett struck Baez out to end the inning. Garrett was demonstrative after the strikeout as the two stared each other down leading to the confrontation. Both bullpens came to the home plate area as some pushing and shoving ensued but nobody was injured or ejected. The sides separated after a few moments.

Jon Lester likes to use the roller coaster analogy when talking about a baseball season though he's not a fan of real roller coasters: "Some seasons are going to be the kiddie rides and some are going to be the Six Flags not so fun ones...I'll stay with Dumbo. The Goofy one I rode this off season. The Seven Dwarfs one was a little much for me but I got through that with the 7 year old. He made me go on that. I don't do Tea Pots. I don't spin." Lester was then asked if It's a Small World is more his style: "I stay away from that one. That song will be in your head for the next 3 days."

Russell's hitting backs Lester in 8-1 Cubs win over Reds

Jon Lester pitched six dominant innings, Addison Russell tied his career high with four hits and the Chicago Cubs quickly took control with a three-run first inning on the way to an 8-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds in the opener of their four-game...
